Job Summary/Basic Function:
Under the general supervision of the Chief Engineer, perform all duties required to maintain and operate the College's boilers, district steam systems and associated equipment.
Essential Functions:
- Operate all boilers, systems and associated equipment, including changing burners, taking on fuel deliveries, switching fuel oil tanks, cleaning strainers and performing water treatment testing as directed. Stand watch on assigned shift during the heating season and day shifts during summer break.
- Take and record data such as temperature, pressure and level. Determine if data is within operating range and take appropriate actions as necessary.
- Maintain all boilers, pumps, valves and other equipment in all condensate, feedwater, steam, fuel oil, natural gas and related systems. Ensure that all areas and equipment are kept clean and fully functional.
- Respond to emergencies, power failures or other plant upsets in a safe and efficient manner.
- Exercise sound judgment when using equipment and chemicals, must follow and use approved safety standards and precautions.
- Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Second Class Massachusetts Boiler operators license
Preferred Qualifications:
- Second Class License, Strong mechanical experience

When determining and establishing hiring rates or recruitment ranges for a position, the College considers a number of factors including the budget for the position, the range of the grade, the external market for the position or similar positions, level and scope of responsibilities, required education, skills and relevant experience as well as internal equity. All salary offers must have the prior approval of the Office of Human Resources.
The starting hourly rate for this position is $29/hr.The actual salary for this position will be commensurate with the qualifications, education and experience of the candidate hired.
